Getting more life out of your smartphone could be complemented by a new application.
One of the best things that you can do to ensure that you will always have a charged cell phone battery is to keep an external charger on hand wherever you go, but at the same time, there are some things that you can do, as a user, to help to stop the power source from being drained in the first place.
A backup external battery is great when the charge has run down, but slowing the drain is also helpful.
Understanding the way that your smartphone actually uses power is an important part of being able to control the drain on the cell phone battery. A team from Perdue University have now created a startup tech company called Mobile Enerlitics LLC that has put out an app called Estar that can show users exactly how much juice is being sucked down by the various applications on a given device. Using it can help you to make the choice to shut down or even remove apps that aren’t being used or that you don’t want anymore because of the impact that they have on your battery life.
A cell phone battery’s life can be dramatically shortened by the types of apps that are running.
By arming yourself with the understanding of how much power is being used by each individual app you can decide whether or not they are worth having or if they should be left running. While it is great to be able to fall back on a portable battery charger, by making additional efforts to stop your power bank from draining in the first place, you can extend its life as a whole.
It is important to note that smartphone batteries allow for a finite number of charges. This means that if you are wasteful with the energy in your device and have to charge it more often than would otherwise be necessary, you are actually causing the battery to have a shorter overall lifetime, not just a shorter charge.
Consider the effort to extend the life of your cell phone battery to be two pronged. The first is to try to slow down the drain, overall, if you can, and the second is to have a backup external battery charger on hand whenever you do actually need more juice for your mobile device.
